Small Animal Pet

Small animal pets are domesticated companion animals, commonly including dogs, cats, rabbits, and other household species, whose health depends on preventive care and timely veterinary treatment. In small animal medicine, clinicians combine medical history, physical examination, laboratory testing, and diagnostic imaging to identify disease, assess severity, and select appropriate interventions. Care may address infectious disease, nutrition, pain, surgery, chronic conditions, and routine vaccination while considering species-specific anatomy and physiology. Effective management improves welfare, supports the human-animal bond, and provides clinically relevant models for understanding disease and evaluating therapies.

2015

The method presented here uses simultaneous positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In the cerebral hypoxia-ischemia model, dynamic changes in diffusion and glucose metabolism occur during and after injury. The evolving and irreproducible damage in this model necessitates simultaneous acquisition if meaningful multi-modal imaging data are to be acquired.

Functional Imaging of Brown Fat in Mice with 18F-FDG micro-PET/CT

A method of functional imaging of mouse brown adipose tissue (BAT) is described in which cold-stimulated uptake of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in BAT is non-invasively assessed with a standardized micro-PET/CT protocol. This method is robust and sensitive to detect differences in BAT activities in mouse models.

An In Vivo PET Imaging Technique to Detect Tumors in a Murine Model Using Radiolabeled Antibodies

2025

This video demonstrates a technique involving a radioimmunoconjugate for the in vivo imaging of a tumor in a mouse model. Upon injection of the radioimmunoconjugate, the antibodies of the conjugate bind to a specific membrane antigen on the cancer cells. The radiotracer of the conjugate emits positrons that interact with neighboring electrons to produce energy, which is detected by a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner to create an image of the tumor.
