Thy1-cfp-23 Mice

Thy1-CFP23 mice are genetically engineered research animals that express cyan fluorescent protein (CFP) in selected neurons, providing a visible marker for studying nervous-system structure and function. In this model, regulatory sequences from the Thy1 gene drive CFP production in neuronal cells, allowing their cell bodies and processes to fluoresce under appropriate microscopy without additional labeling. This signal supports analysis of neuronal morphology, process dynamics, and structural changes in living or fixed tissue. In medicine and neuroscience, Thy1-CFP23 mice help investigate neural development, connectivity, injury, and neurodegenerative disease, while enabling researchers to assess how experimental treatments affect neuronal architecture.

Installation of Optical Windows in the Brain of Transgenic Mice to Image Neural Activities

2025

This video demonstrates the brain's neural activity recording through an optical window in transgenic mice. The mice express a fluorescent protein that enables the detection of neural activities. A small portion of the skull is carefully removed to install an optical window, and the skull is then covered with black cement to block light before imaging.
