Floor Plate Precursors

Floor plate precursors are early neural progenitor cells that develop into the floor plate, a specialized structure along the ventral midline of the embryonic neural tube. Their identity is established through Sonic hedgehog signaling from the notochord and emerging floor plate, which activates ventral neural patterning programs including FOXA2 expression and promotes precursor differentiation. These cells produce signals that organize neighboring neural progenitors and guide commissural axons across the spinal cord. Studying floor plate precursors helps clarify embryonic nervous system development and supports protocols for generating ventral spinal neurons from pluripotent stem cells, with potential applications in disease modeling and neural repair research.

Culture of Isolated Floor Plate Tissue and Production of Conditioned Medium to Assess Functional Properties of Floor Plate-released Signals

2014

The floor plate is a crucial structure of the developing spinal cord, providing diffusible signals to progenitors and differentiating neurons. We describe a method to produce floor-plate conditioned medium, to apply it to fresh spinal cord tissue, and to assess the consequences on proteins of interest by biochemistry.

Price Floor

2025

A price floor is a policy tool that sets a legal minimum price for a good or service. It is often implemented to protect producers from falling prices and ensure a fair income, particularly in the agricultural sector. However, when the price floor is established above the equilibrium price, it can disrupt the natural market balance. This can lead to unintended consequences such as lost consumer surplus and reduced market efficiency. When a price floor is imposed above the market-clearing price,...

Muscles of the Pelvic Floor and Perineum

2025

The muscles of the pelvic floor and perineum are crucial for supporting the pelvic organs, controlling continence, and aiding in sexual function, childbirth, and core stability. They are typically divided into the superficial perineal layer and the deep pelvic floor layer. Perineal Layer The perineum is a diamond-shaped area below the pelvic diaphragm, divided into an anterior urogenital triangle that contains the external genitals and a posterior anal triangle housing the anus. The urogenital...

Stimulation of Notch Signaling in Mouse Osteoclast Precursors

2017

Notch signaling is a form of cellular communication that relies upon direct contact between cells. To properly induce Notch signaling in vitro, Notch ligands must be presented to cells in an immobilized state. This protocol describes methods for in vitro stimulation of Notch signaling in mouse osteoclast precursors.

Coronoid-Temporalis Pedicled Flap for Orbital Floor Defect Reconstruction

2025

This protocol presents a novel coronoid-temporalis pedicled flap (CTPF) technique for reconstructing small-to-medium orbital floor defects. CTPF avoids microvascular risks while maintaining biomechanical stability. Clinical cases demonstrate effective structural restoration, reduced complications, and preserved facial symmetry, offering a viable alternative to traditional grafts or alloplastic materials.
