Mechanical Stimulation Probe

A mechanical stimulation probe is a research instrument that applies controlled physical forces to cells, tissues, or sensory structures, enabling neuroscientists to study how the nervous system detects and processes mechanical stimuli. The probe delivers calibrated indentation, pressure, displacement, or vibration while researchers measure resulting changes in membrane potential, ion-channel activity, or neuronal firing. These responses often involve mechanosensitive ion channels that convert physical deformation into electrical signals through mechanotransduction. Mechanical stimulation probes support investigations of touch, proprioception, pain, and tissue mechanics, helping link cellular force sensing to sensory behavior and informing research on neurological disorders and bioengineered neural systems.
