Neural Simulation

Neural simulation is the computational modeling of nervous-system structure and activity, allowing researchers to represent how neurons and circuits generate, transmit, and process signals. These models use mathematical equations or software-based networks to reproduce processes such as membrane-potential changes, synaptic communication, and patterns of electrical activity under defined conditions. In neuroscience, neural simulation helps test hypotheses about brain function, compare circuit behaviors, and examine how changes in connectivity or cellular properties affect information processing. It also supports studies of neurological disorders, guides experimental design, and contributes to the development of brain-inspired computing and predictive models of neural dynamics.

2012

An efficient way to gain insight into how humans navigate themselves in three dimensions is described. The method takes advantage of a motion simulator capable of moving observers in ways unattainable by traditional simulators. Results confirm that movement in the horizontal plane is underestimated, while vertical movement is overestimated.
