Shaved Mouse Scalp

Shaved mouse scalp refers to the removal of fur from the scalp as a preparatory step for laboratory studies, improving access to and visualization of the underlying skin and skull. Investigators typically clip or otherwise remove the hair before procedures, allowing imaging systems, electrodes, sensors, or surgical instruments to contact the head more reliably while reducing optical interference. In neuroscience, this preparation supports cranial surgery, electrophysiological recording, optical imaging, and behavioral experiments that require consistent head access. Careful scalp preparation can improve measurement quality, procedural accuracy, and animal monitoring across studies of brain structure and function.

Development of an effective brain-machine-interface (BMI) system for restoration and rehabilitation of bipedal locomotion requires accurate decoding of user's intent. Here we present a novel experimental protocol and data collection technique for simultaneous non-invasive acquisition of neural activity, muscle activity, and whole-body kinematics during various locomotion tasks and conditions.

(2022)This video demonstrates the stereotaxic transplantation of genetically modified human neural progenitor cells (NPCs) into the mouse brain. Researchers inject NPCs expressing luciferase and fluorescent proteins, enabling in vivo bioluminescence imaging and post-mortem fluorescence microscopy to study cell survival, migration, and...

Recording of Local Field Potential from Both Hemispheres of the Mouse Brain

2025

This video demonstrates in vivo recording of local field potential (LFP) from bilateral M2 areas of the mouse brain. An anesthetized mouse is secured and prepared for the procedure. To record LFPs, insert microelectrodes into the target coordinates of the bilateral M2 areas, which are responsible for complex motor movements.

Establishing a Model of Zika Virus-Induced Neurodegeneration in an Adult Mouse

2025

The video demonstrates intracerebral injection of Zika virus suspension in an adult mouse to induce neurodegeneration. An anesthetized mouse is secured in a stereotaxic frame, and a hole is drilled into the exposed skull for injection. A suspension of the Zika virus is injected into the brain tissue. The viral infection causes inflammation, leading to neurodegeneration.
