Gd-dtpa

Gd-DTPA, or gadolinium diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid, is a gadolinium-based contrast agent that improves the visibility of tissues and physiological structures in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Its paramagnetic gadolinium ion alters the relaxation behavior of nearby hydrogen nuclei, primarily shortening T1 relaxation times and increasing signal intensity in T1-weighted images; the chelating DTPA ligand helps keep the metal ion in a soluble, biologically usable complex. In bioengineering, Gd-DTPA supports noninvasive imaging of vascular structures, tissue perfusion, permeability, and engineered biomaterials, enabling researchers to evaluate structure and function without surgical sampling.

The goal of this experiment is to determine and control the size, shape and stability of self-assembled discotic amphiphiles in water. For aqueous based supramolecular polymers such level of control is very difficult. We apply a strategy using both repulsive and attractive interactions. The experimental techniques applied to characterize this system are broadly applicable.

The Bioconjugation and Radiosynthesis of 89Zr-DFO-labeled Antibodies

Due to its multi-day radioactive half-life and favorable decay properties, the positron-emitting radiometal 89Zr is extremely well-suited for use in antibody-based radiopharmaceuticals for PET imaging. In this protocol, the bioconjugation, radiosynthesis, and preclinical application of 89Zr-labeled antibodies will be described.

A novel methodology that is employed for the treatment of recurrent glioblastomas is described. This treatment approach employs the application of alternating electric tumor treating fields (TTFields), known as TTF Therapy in combination with bevacizumab, a targeted agent that is currently FDA approved as monotherapy.

Use of Artificial Sputum Medium to Test Antibiotic Efficacy Against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Conditions More Relevant to the Cystic Fibrosis Lung

Current diagnostic antimicrobial susceptibility testing relies on the planktonic growth of isolates in nutrient rich, aerobic conditions. Here, we employ an alternative artificial sputum medium to study antimicrobial susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms under both aerobic and microaerophilic conditions more representative of the cystic fibrosis lung.
