Utero-tubal Junction

The utero-tubal junction is the narrow anatomical passage connecting the uterus with each fallopian tube, where it regulates the movement of sperm, oocytes, and early embryos and therefore supports mammalian reproduction. Its muscular wall, epithelial lining, and mucosal folds create a selective gateway: smooth-muscle contractions, ciliary activity, and hormonally regulated secretions influence transport through the junction and may help control the timing and direction of passage. Studying the utero-tubal junction helps explain sperm migration, fertilization, and early embryo movement, while providing biological insight into infertility, contraception, and reproductive tract disorders.

Utero-tubal embryo transfer uses the utero-tubal junction as a barrier to prevent the embryo outflow that may occur when performing uterine transfer. Vasectomized males are required to obtain pseudopregnant recipients for embryo transfer. Both techniques are discussed.

Murine In Utero Electroporation

2023

In utero electroporation is an important technique for studying the molecular mechanisms that guide the proliferation, differentiation, migration, and maturation of cells during neural development. Electroporation enables the rapid and targeted delivery of material into cells by utilizing electrical pulses to create transient pores in cell membranes. Although electroporation has traditionally been used in in vitro studies, scientific advancements have now broadened its utilization to intact...

Papanicolaou Staining: A Technique to Visualize the Cytological Features of Tubal Cells
