Dopamine Glutamate Detection

Dopamine-glutamate detection is the measurement of dopamine and glutamate, two key neurotransmitters that regulate signaling, motivation, learning, and synaptic plasticity in the nervous system. Detection methods use selective chemical recognition or electrochemical and optical sensing to convert neurotransmitter release, concentration, or uptake into measurable signals, often with high temporal and spatial resolution. In neuroscience, these approaches help distinguish how excitatory glutamatergic transmission interacts with dopaminergic signaling across neural circuits. Their application supports research on reward processing, cognition, addiction, neurodegeneration, and psychiatric disorders, while improving understanding of real-time communication between neurons and informing the development of targeted experimental and therapeutic strategies.

Measuring Dopamine Uptake in Mouse Brain Synaptosomes Using Radiolabeled Dopamine

2025

This video demonstrates the assessment of dopamine uptake in synaptosomes harvested from mouse brains. It outlines steps for preparing synaptosomes for dopamine uptake via dopamine transporters, treating them with varying concentrations of radiolabeled dopamine, isolating the synaptosomes, and measuring radioactivity to quantify dopamine uptake.

We present a novel PET imaging approach for capturing dopamine fluctuations induced by cigarette smoking. Subjects smoke in the PET scanner. Dynamic PET images are modeled voxel-by-voxel in time by lp-ntPET, which includes a time-varying dopamine term. The results are 'movies' of dopamine fluctuations in the striatum during smoking.

Over the recent years, live cell-based assays have been used successfully to detect antibodies against surface and conformational antigens. Here, we describe a method using high-throughput flow cytometry enabling the analysis of large cohorts of patients. Detection of novel antibodies will improve diagnosis and treatment of immune-mediated disorders.
