Nitrogen Supply

Nitrogen supply is the provision and regulation of biologically available nitrogen needed to build amino acids, nucleotides, and other cellular molecules. In the nervous system, nitrogen enters through circulating nutrients and is redistributed through amino acid metabolism; astrocytes help manage nitrogen by converting potentially toxic ammonia into glutamine, which supports the glutamate–glutamine cycle between glial cells and neurons. This process maintains neurotransmitter production, protein synthesis, and cellular homeostasis. Understanding nitrogen handling is therefore important for studying brain metabolism, neuron–glia interactions, and neurological conditions in which ammonia balance or amino acid metabolism is disrupted.

The Nitrogen Cycle

2019

Nitrogen atoms, present in all proteins and DNA, are recycled between abiotic and biotic components of the ecosystem. However, the primary form of nitrogen on Earth is nitrogen gas, which cannot be used by most animals and plants. Thus, nitrogen gas must first be converted into a usable form by nitrogen-fixing bacteria before it can be cycled through other living organisms. The use of nitrogen-containing fertilizers and animal waste products in human agriculture has greatly influenced the...

Carbon and Nitrogen Analysis of Environmental Samples

Source: Laboratories of Margaret Workman and Kimberly Frye - Depaul University Elemental Analysis is a method used to determine elemental composition of a material. In environmental samples such as soils, scientists are particularly interested in the amounts of two ecologically important elements, nitrogen and carbon. Elemental analysis by the flash combustion technique works by oxidizing the sample with a catalyst through combustion in a high-temperature chamber. The products of combustion are...

2024

Supply is a fundamental concept in economics that refers to the quantity of goods and services that producers are willing and able to offer for sale at various prices within a given period. It represents the relationship between the price of a product and the quantity supplied. Generally as prices rise, producers are typically motivated to supply more goods or services to the market, increasing the quantity supplied. Conversely, when prices fall, producers may reduce the quantity supplied as it...

Individuals, organizations, resources, activities, and technology are all involved in creating and selling a product. The process typically begins with sourcing raw materials from suppliers, progresses through manufacturing to produce finished goods, continues with warehousing, and culminates in distribution to consumers. Supply Chain Management, or SCM oversees the seamless flow of goods, information, and finances across these stages, aiming to optimize costs, manage inventory levels...
