Fibroblast Neuron Behavior

Fibroblast neuron behavior describes how fibroblasts and neurons function and influence one another within tissues, linking connective-tissue biology with nervous-system development, repair, and disease. Fibroblasts can alter neuronal survival, growth, migration, and signaling through secreted factors, cell-surface interactions, and extracellular-matrix components, while neuronal signals can modify fibroblast activity and gene expression. Studying these interactions helps clarify how tissue environments shape neural responses and how injury changes communication between stromal and neural cells. This knowledge supports research on wound healing, nerve regeneration, fibrosis, neuroinflammation, and engineered tissue models.

Generating Neurons by Reprogramming Human Dermal Fibroblast Cells

2025

The video demonstrates the generation of neurons from adult human dermal fibroblasts (aHDFs). The aHDFs are reprogrammed using a lentiviral vector carrying genes for neuronal transcription factors and short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs). The shRNAs inhibit the expression of a neuronal transcriptional repressor, and the neuronal transcription factors activate genes to differentiate aHDFs into neurons. These reprogrammed aHDFs are cultured in an early and a late neuronal conversion medium to generate...

Generating a 3D Co-Culture Model of Human Corneal Fibroblasts and Neurons

Carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) rich in myofibroblasts present within the tumour stroma, play a major role in driving tumour progression. We developed a coimplantation tumour xengraft model for experimentally generating CAFs from human mammary fibroblasts. The protocol describes how to establish CAF myofibroblasts that acquire an ability to promote tumourigenesis.

Navigational Behavior of Drosophila Larvae in Response to Optogenetic Stimulation of Olfactory Sensory Neurons

2025

This video demonstrates a study of the navigational behavior of Drosophila larvae in response to optogenetic stimulation of olfactory sensory neurons (ORNs). Transgenic Drosophila larvae expressing light-sensitive ion channels in the ORNs are placed on agarose within a behavior arena. Optogenetic stimulation with light opens the channels, causing a cation influx that triggers the transmission of the signal to the brain, and the navigation behavior is recorded.

Calcium Imaging in Individual Neurons Regulating Egg-Laying Behavior in Caenorhabditis elegans

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for calcium imaging in individual neurons of behaving Caenorhabditis elegans using genetically encoded fluorescent reporter proteins. It outlines the steps involved in imaging worm movement and measuring reporter fluorescence ratios from neurons to correlate intracellular calcium levels with neuronal activity and behavioral changes during egg-laying.
