Ovule Dissection

Ovule dissection is a microscopy-based technique used to isolate and examine the internal structures of a plant ovule, a key reproductive organ that develops into a seed after fertilization. In the procedure, researchers carefully remove surrounding tissues and separate delicate layers, such as the integuments and nucellus, to expose the embryo sac and its cellular components for observation. This approach helps students and researchers investigate ovule anatomy, megagametogenesis, pollination, and fertilization, while supporting studies of plant reproduction, embryo development, seed formation, and reproductive success.

This video describes the technique of transferring embryos into the oviduct of a recipient female rabbit via Laparoscopy. It allows embryo remodeling in rabbits during its migration through the oviduct, eventually helping in successful implantation. This technique can also be used for stored embryos with good efficiency.

Dissection of the Adult Zebrafish Kidney

The zebrafish kidney is home to both renal and hematopoietic adult stem/progenitor cells, and represents an outstanding opportunity to study these cell types and their progeny in a vertebrate model organism. Here, we demonstrate a detailed dissection procedure that enables the researcher to identify and surgically remove the adult zebrafish kidney, which can be used for applications such as cell isolation, transplantation, and expression studies of kidney and/or blood cell populations.
