Paraffin Oil Container

A paraffin oil container is a laboratory vessel designed to store, protect, and dispense paraffin oil for controlled use in biological experiments. Its sealed, chemically compatible design helps limit contamination, reduce evaporation, and maintain the oil’s condition during repeated handling, while allowing measured transfer with a pipette or other laboratory tool. In biology, paraffin oil can form a protective liquid layer over aqueous samples, restrict gas exchange, or reduce evaporation during incubation and microscopy procedures. Proper container selection and handling support reproducible sample preparation, stable experimental conditions, and reliable results in cell, embryo, and biochemical research.

Embedding Adult Drosophila Heads in Paraffin: Preparing Tissue for Histology

2023

This video describes how to embed Drosophila heads in paraffin using the collar method, a technique that prepares fly heads for serial sectioning. Paraffin sections are used for histological examinations of the brain's anatomy and for the assessment of neurodegeneration. The featured protocol demonstrates how multiple flies can be processed in one preparation, thereby increasing time-efficiency and minimizing experimental artifacts.
