Pulmonary Fibrosis

Pulmonary fibrosis is a group of lung disorders in which scar tissue accumulates in the interstitium, thickening and stiffening the lungs and impairing oxygen transfer. Repeated alveolar injury or abnormal repair can activate inflammatory signaling and fibroblasts, which deposit excessive extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen; progressive scarring reduces lung compliance and disrupts gas exchange. In biology and medicine, studying pulmonary fibrosis helps explain tissue remodeling, cellular responses to injury, and mechanisms of chronic disease. Research supports improved diagnosis, evaluation of antifibrotic treatments, and investigation of regenerative strategies to preserve or restore lung function.

Various animal models of pulmonary fibrosis have been established using bleomycin to clarify the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis and find new drug targets. However, most pulmonary fibrosis models targeting lung tissue have uneven drug administration. Here, we propose a model of uniform pulmonary fibrosis induced by nasal bleomycin nebulization.
