Pbs Artery Washing

PBS artery washing is a tissue-preparation procedure that uses phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) to rinse blood vessels before analysis or further processing. The isotonic, pH-buffered solution is passed through or over the artery to remove residual blood, soluble contaminants, and loose debris while helping maintain the vessel’s structural integrity. This step can improve the consistency of vascular samples prepared for histology, imaging, biochemical analysis, or decellularization. By reducing background material before downstream procedures, PBS artery washing supports clearer observations of artery morphology and more reliable assessment of vascular tissue composition and organization.

Washing, Drying, and Ignition of Precipitates

After filtration, the precipitate is washed to remove coprecipitated impurities and any remaining mother liquor. Colloidal precipitates, such as silver chloride, are washed with an electrolyte (such as dilute nitric acid) to prevent the peptization of the precipitate. In the case of slightly soluble precipitates, the wash solution contains a common ion to reduce solubility. Lead sulfate, which is slightly soluble in water, is washed with dilute sulfuric acid. Similarly, wash solutions may be...

Source: Sharon Bord, MD, Department of Emergency Medicine, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Maryland, USA When monitoring patients, it is important to obtain values that are accurate and reliable. Blood pressure monitoring is one of the essential vital signs, and for a majority of patients, measuring it utilizing non-invasive techniques provides accurate values. However, there are situations in which the blood pressure requires more exact, specific, and reliable measurements.

Direct Re-implantation of Left Coronary Artery into the Aorta in Adults with Anomalous Origin of Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery (ALCAPA)

Surgical correction of ALCAPA is highly recommended, regardless of age or the degree of intercoronary collateralization. This protocol presents a technique for the direct re-implantation of adult-type ALCAPA into the aorta to re-establish the dual-coronary perfusion. Whenever feasible, direct re-implantation is preferred to other surgical correction techniques.

Preparation of Washed Human Platelets for Quantitative Metabolic Flux Studies

Platelet metabolism is of interest, particularly as it relates to the role of platelet hyper- and hypoactivity in bleeding and thrombotic disorders. Isolating platelets from plasma is necessary for some metabolic assays; presented here is a method for isolating of intracellular metabolites from washed platelets.
