Polished Resin Blocks

Polished resin blocks are solid, polymerized resin specimens with smooth exposed surfaces prepared for microscopic examination. In biological preparation, fixed and dehydrated tissues are infiltrated with liquid resin, which hardens around the specimen; grinding and polishing then reveal a stable, nearly plane surface for imaging or sectioning. This approach is especially useful for preserving tissue architecture, cellular relationships, and material interfaces that may be distorted during routine processing. Polished resin blocks support studies of anatomy, histology, pathology, biomaterials, and microscopy, providing durable samples for examining embedded biological structures at high resolution.

Source: Schaeffer, J. W., Chandler, et al. Detection of Viruses from Bioaerosols Using Anion Exchange Resin. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the detection of viruses from bioaerosols using an anion exchange resin. A liquid impinger containing the resin is used to capture viruses from the air. The resin is collected and treated with a virus lysis buffer containing carrier RNA. The lysate is transferred to a microcentrifuge tube for viral RNA isolation, followed by qRT-PCR to amplify...
