Small Teleost Model

A small teleost model is a compact bony fish used as a laboratory organism to investigate biological processes, disease mechanisms, development, and environmental responses. Species such as zebrafish and medaka produce many externally fertilized embryos, develop rapidly, and often have transparent early life stages, allowing researchers to observe organ formation and cellular behavior in living animals; their genomes can also be modified to examine gene function. These features support applications in genetics, developmental biology, toxicology, neuroscience, and drug screening. Small teleost models provide experimentally accessible vertebrate systems that connect molecular findings with organism-level outcomes while reducing space and resource requirements.
