Vesicle Surface Interaction

Vesicle surface interaction describes how membrane-bound vesicles contact, adhere to, exchange material with, or move across biological and synthetic surfaces. These interactions arise from complementary molecular forces, including receptor-ligand recognition, electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic effects, and membrane lipid organization, which can promote docking, fusion, budding, or cellular uptake under specific conditions. In biology, vesicle surface interactions regulate processes such as neurotransmitter release, intracellular trafficking, and communication between cells. Understanding them also supports research on extracellular vesicles, biomembranes, drug-delivery systems, and engineered nanocarriers, where controlling surface composition and binding behavior can influence targeting, stability, and cargo delivery.

Quantitative Flow Cytometry to Study Labeled Protein-Phospholipid Vesicle Interactions

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the interaction between proteins and artificial phospholipid vesicles using quantitative flow cytometry. The binding of fluorescently-labeled proteins to fluorescently-labeled phospholipid vesicles increases the mean fluorescence intensity, and this increase is detected by a flow cytometer.

This paper proposes a new generation of multiparametric analytical platforms with increased throughput for the characterization of extracellular vesicle subsets. The method is based on a combination of multiplexed biosensing methods with metrological and morphomechanical analyses by atomic force microscopy, coupled with Raman spectroscopy, to qualify vesicular targets trapped on a microarray biochip.

Surface Plasmon Resonance to Study Biomolecular Interactions Using a Sensor Chip

2025

This video describes the surface plasmon resonance, or SPR, technique for studying the interaction between two molecules using a sensor chip. The change in resonance angle and the intensity of the reflected light are detected as a function of the association and dissociation of two molecules, and this provides information about the interactions between the two molecules.

Lipid Vesicle-mediated Affinity Chromatography using Magnetic Activated Cell Sorting (LIMACS): a Novel Method to Analyze Protein-lipid Interaction

To test the interaction of a protein with its target lipid we used MACS and Annexin V-conjugated magnetic beads and lipid vesicles synthesized from the target lipid and Annexin V-binding phosphatidylserine. Proteins bound to the target lipid are co-purified and analyzed after elution from the beads.
