Graduated Cylinder

A graduated cylinder is a tall, narrow laboratory vessel used to measure and transfer liquid volumes with greater precision than a beaker. Its printed graduations provide a volume scale, while accurate readings require placing the cylinder on a level surface and aligning the bottom of the liquid meniscus with the appropriate mark at eye level. In chemistry, graduated cylinders support solution preparation, dilution, density measurements, and routine volume transfers. They are generally more precise than beakers but less accurate than volumetric flasks, making them valuable for measurements where speed and moderate volume precision are more important than exact calibration.

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Cylinders in Three-Dimensional Space

2026

A cylindrical surface is generated when a two-dimensional profile curve is translated along a straight line in three-dimensional space. The translated copies of the curve form a surface composed of parallel rulings, each oriented in the same fixed direction. This construction allows many three-dimensional forms to be described using relatively simple planar equations. In Cartesian coordinates, a cylindrical surface is often recognized by an equation that omits one of the three variables. For...

In Vitro Evaluation of The Effects Of Er,Cr:YSGG and Diode Lasers Used on Titanium Cylinder

In this study, Er,Cr:YSGG and diode lasers applied separately to the flat surface of a total of 96 specially designed titanium cylinders. A thermocouple placed on the other surface and the temperature was measured. Surface roughness analyzed by profilometer, SEM and AFM.

A Novel Approach to Assess Motor Outcome of Deep Brain Stimulation Effects in the Hemiparkinsonian Rat: Staircase and Cylinder Test

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment option for Parkinson's disease. We established a study design to screen novel stimulation paradigms in rats. The protocol describes the use of the staircase test and cylinder test for motor outcome assessment in DBS treated hemiparkinsonian rats.

Source: Smaa Koraym at Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA Measuring Diameter and CircumferenceExpand Error can be introduced in any experiment, even when the technique is performed carefully and correctly. It is essential to critically examine your experimental methods when performing any lab exercise in order to understand and evaluate uncertainty. In this part of the lab, you'll determine a procedure for measuring the circumference of different glassware and then assess sources of error in...
