Egfp Transfection

EGFP transfection is a biological technique that introduces DNA encoding enhanced green fluorescent protein into living cells, enabling researchers to visualize gene expression and cellular behavior. Typically, an EGFP-containing plasmid enters cells through lipid-mediated delivery, electroporation, or another transfection method; once delivered, the DNA is expressed and EGFP folds into a fluorescent protein that emits green light when excited. Researchers use this reporter system to assess transfection efficiency, track protein localization, monitor cell migration or morphology, and study promoter activity in real time. Its measurable fluorescence supports applications in cell biology, molecular biology, drug screening, and genetic engineering.

An Introduction to Transfection

2023

Transfection is the process of inserting genetic material, such as DNA and double stranded RNA, into mammalian cells. The insertion of DNA into a cell enables the expression, or production, of proteins using the cells own machinery, whereas insertion of RNA into a cell is used to down-regulate the production of a specific protein by stopping translation. While the site of action for transfected RNA is the cytoplasm, DNA must be transported to the nucleus for effective transfection. There, the...

Despite recent advancements in genetic modification, transfection of human embryonic stem cells (HESCs) remains a capricious process. To our knowledge, systematic and efficient methods to transfect human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have not been reported. Here, we describe robust protocols to efficiently transfect and nucleofect human iPSCs.

We demonstrate an in vivo electroporation protocol for transfecting single or small clusters of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and other retinal cell types in postnatal mice over a wide range of ages. The ability to label and genetically manipulate postnatal RGCs in vivo is a powerful tool for developmental studies.

Neuronal Transfection Methods

Transfection - the process of transferring genetic material into cells - is a powerful tool for the rapid and efficient manipulation of gene expression in cells. Because this method can be used to silence the expression of specific proteins or to drive the expression of foreign or modified proteins, transfection is an extremely useful tool in the study of the cellular and molecular processes that govern neuron function. However, mature neurons have a number of properties that make them...
