Multi Flask Cell Culture

Multi-flask cell culture is a laboratory method for growing and maintaining cells in multiple culture flasks, enabling larger cell numbers than a single vessel can provide. Cells are introduced into sterile flasks containing nutrient medium and incubated under controlled temperature, gas, and pH conditions; adherent cells attach to the treated surface, proliferate, and are periodically passaged into fresh flasks when they reach suitable density. This approach supports cell expansion for microscopy, molecular assays, drug screening, and tissue engineering. Using several flasks also provides biological replicates and sufficient material for experiments while helping researchers monitor growth and culture consistency.

A robust way to study neuronal avalanches, i.e. scale-invariant spatio-temporal activity bursts, indicative of critical state dynamics in cortex. Avalanches emerge spontaneously in developing superficial layers of cultured cortex which allows for long-term measurements of the activity with planar integrated multi-electrode arrays (MEA) under precisely controlled conditions.
