Basic Plant Anatomy: Roots, Stems, and Leaves

Pflanzen werden oft als
weniger komplex als Tiere erachtet,
aber genau wie Tiere bestehen
sie aus Organen
und Organsystemen, die
spezialisierte Funktionen ausf&#xFC;hren.
Die gro&#xDF;e Mehrheit von Pflanzen
verf&#xFC;gt &#xFC;ber zwei Organsysteme:
die Spro&#xDF;- und Wurzelsysteme.
Wurzeln wachsen normalerweise
unter der Erde.
Sie verankern die Pflanze und
nehmen Wasser und N&#xE4;hrstoffe
aus der Umgebung auf.
Die beiden Haupttypen
von Wurzelsystemen
sind Pfahlwurzelsysteme und
Flachwurzelsysteme.
Bei einem Pfalhwurzelsystem entsteht eine
Wurzel aus dem Samen
nach der Keimung und
w&#xE4;chst tief in den Boden hinein,
um die Pflanze zu verankern.
Viel kleinere Seitenwurzeln verzweigen
sich dann von der Hauptwurzel.
Bei einem Flachwurzelsystem jedoch,
st&#xFC;tzt die Hauptwurzel nur
die Entwicklung
des S&#xE4;mlings.
Sp&#xE4;ter zweigen viele kleine Wurzeln
vom Stamm unter der Erde ab.
Diese sogenannten
Adventivwurzeln
bilden ein Netzwerk
im Boden in geringer Tiefe,
das die reife Pflanze st&#xFC;tzt.
Die Organe, die das
Spro&#xDF;system umfassen,
k&#xF6;nnen entweder als
reproduktive oder vegetative
Organe klassifiziert werden.
Die reproduktiven Organe umfassen
Bl&#xFC;ten, Fr&#xFC;chte und Zapfen.
Es existiert ein betr&#xE4;chtliche Vielfalt
in Bezug darauf, wie Pflanzen
reproduzieren und folglich bei
den reproduktiven Organen,
die sie besitzen.
Die vegetativen Organe
umfassen allerdings immer
den Stamm und die Bl&#xE4;tter.
Der Stamm einer Pflanze
bietet die Struktur,
st&#xFC;tzt die Bl&#xE4;tter,
Knospen und Bl&#xFC;ten.
Der Stamm richtet die Bl&#xE4;tter auch aus,
die die Photosynthese zu maximieren.
Der Stamm besteht aus
Knoten, Punkten
an denen die Bl&#xE4;tter und
&#xC4;ste befestigt sind,
und Internodien, die Bereiche
des Stamms zwischen den Knoten.
Ein St&#xE4;ngel, der als Blattstiel bezeichnet wird,
verankert jedes Blatt am Knoten.
Der abschlie&#xDF;ende Teil des Blattes
wird Halm oder Lamina genannt.
Einfache Bl&#xE4;tter haben
einen Halm je Blattstiel,
w&#xE4;hrend zusammengesetzte Bl&#xE4;tter
mehrere Halme haben, die
an jeden Blattstiel befestigt ist.
Wieder andere Pflanzen, wie beispielsweise
Gr&#xE4;ser, haben keine Blattstiele.
Stattdessen umwickelt der Halm
direkt einen Teil des Stamms.
Die Bl&#xE4;tter f&#xFC;hren den
Hauptteil der Photosynthese aus.
Die Halme sind oft d&#xFC;nn
und in ihrer Form abgeflacht,
um den Oberfl&#xE4;chenbereich,
der der Sonne ausgesetzt ist, zu vergr&#xF6;&#xDF;ern.

Die Hauptorgane der Gef&#xE4;&#xDF;pflanzen sind Wurzeln, Stiele und Bl&#xE4;tter, aber diese Strukturen k&#xF6;nnen sehr variieren, da sie sich an die spezifischen Bed&#xFC;rfnisse und die Umgebung von verschiedenen Pflanzenarten angepasst haben.
 
 Wurzeln
 
 W&#xE4;hrend Wurzeln am h&#xE4;ufigsten im unter der Erde zu finden sind, ist dies nicht &#xFC;berall der Fall. Luftwurzeln sind alle Wurzeln, die oberirdisch entstehen. Epiphyten, wie Orchideen, k&#xF6;nnen ihr ganzes Leben leben, ohne den Boden zu ber&#xFC;hren. Andere Arten der Luftwurzeln, wie die der W&#xFC;rgefeige oder des Banyanbaums, keimen oberirdisch, wachsen aber nach unten, dringen schlie&#xDF;lich in den Boden ein und scheinen ihre Wirtspflanze zu &#x22;w&#xFC;rgen&#x22;.
 
 Einige Pflanzen haben Wurzeln, die sich so angepasst haben, dass sie zus&#xE4;tzliche Unterst&#xFC;tzung zu bieten. Brettwurzeln sind eine solche Modifikation. Sie wachsen als zuf&#xE4;llige Wurzeln &#x2013; das sind solche, die sich nicht aus einer Hauptwurzel entwickeln &#x2013; an dem untersten Knoten des Sprosses und erreichen den Boden in einem Winkel, um strukturelle Unterst&#xFC;tzung zu bieten.
 
 Sprossachse
 
 Sprossachsen haben mehrere Funktionen. Dazu geh&#xF6;ren die Bereitstellung der Struktur, die Unterst&#xFC;tzung der Bl&#xE4;tter, Knospen, und Blumen. Dar&#xFC;ber hinaus hilft die Sprossachse bei der Orientierung der Bl&#xE4;tter, um die Photosynthese zu maximieren. Sprossachse enth&#xE4;lt Knoten (Nodien), an diesen Punkten finden sich die Bl&#xE4;tter und Zweige, und Internodien, das ist der Bereich zwischen den Nodien.
 
 Der Blattstiel (Petiolus) Petiole ist ein St&#xE4;ngel der jedes Blatt am Nodus verankert.
 
 Bl&#xE4;tter
 
 Die Bl&#xE4;tter f&#xFC;hren den Gro&#xDF;teil der Photosynthese durch. W&#xE4;hrend Bl&#xE4;tter in einer Vielzahl von Formen und Gr&#xF6;&#xDF;en vorkommen k&#xF6;nnen, sind sie oft d&#xFC;nn und abgeflacht, um die Oberfl&#xE4;che die dem Sonnenlicht ausgesetzt ist, zu maximieren. Der terminale Teil des Blattes wird Blattspreite oder Lamina genannt. Sprossachsen und Bl&#xE4;tter k&#xF6;nnen auch modifiziert werden, um St&#xE4;rke zu speichern - Knollen wie Kartoffeln sind tats&#xE4;chlich modifizierte Sprossachsen, obwohl sie unterirdisch wachsen. Plants are built from roots, stems, and leaves, but each organ can change to fit a plant’s environment. These structures may look very different from one species to another. They still carry out the main jobs needed for growth and survival.

Roots are usually underground, but that is not always true. Aerial roots grow aboveground. Epiphytic plants, such as orchids, can live without ever touching soil. In strangler figs and banyans, aerial roots begin aboveground, grow downward, and later reach the soil. Some roots are also specialized for support. Buttress roots help large tropical trees stand upright in shallow soil. Brace roots, also called prop roots, support tall plants like corn. These roots are adventitious roots, which means they do not arise from the primary root. Instead, they grow from nodes near the lower stem and angle into the ground.

Stems provide structure and hold up leaves, buds, and flowers. They also help position leaves so they can capture more light for photosynthesis. A stem has nodes, where leaves and branches attach, and internodes, which are the stem regions between nodes. The petiole is the stalk that connects a leaf to the node.

Leaves carry out most photosynthesis. Many leaves are thin and flat, which increases the surface area exposed to sunlight. The blade, also called the lamina, is the wide part of the leaf. Simple leaves have one blade per petiole, while compound leaves have several blades attached to one petiole. Some plants, such as grasses, do not have petioles. In these plants, the blade attaches directly to part of the stem.

Roots, stems, and leaves can also store food. Taproots, such as carrots and beets, are enlarged to store starches. Stems and leaves can store starch too. Potatoes are tubers, which are modified stems even though they grow underground. Onions are modified leaves that store starch.
