Monodisperse Cylinders

Monodisperse cylinders are cylindrical particles or structures with nearly identical dimensions, especially diameter and length, making them useful model systems in chemistry and materials research. Their uniformity arises when synthesis or fabrication tightly controls nucleation, growth, templating, or geometric confinement, producing a narrow size distribution and consistent aspect ratio. Compared with polydisperse samples, these cylinders provide more predictable packing, suspension behavior, optical response, and surface interactions, allowing researchers to relate macroscopic properties to particle shape. They support studies of colloids, self-assembly, rheology, and functional materials while improving reproducibility in formulation, characterization, and device design.

2016

Here, we demonstrate a simple production method for size-controllable, monodisperse, water-in-oil (W/O) microdroplets using a capillary-based centrifugal microfluidic device. This method requires only a small sample volume and enables high-yield production. We expect this method will be useful for rapid biochemical and cellular analyses.

Paw-Dragging: a Novel, Sensitive Analysis of the Mouse Cylinder Test

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Cylinders in Three-Dimensional Space

2026

A cylindrical surface is generated when a two-dimensional profile curve is translated along a straight line in three-dimensional space. The translated copies of the curve form a surface composed of parallel rulings, each oriented in the same fixed direction. This construction allows many three-dimensional forms to be described using relatively simple planar equations. In Cartesian coordinates, a cylindrical surface is often recognized by an equation that omits one of the three variables. For...

In Vitro Evaluation of The Effects Of Er,Cr:YSGG and Diode Lasers Used on Titanium Cylinder

2016

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment option for Parkinson's disease. We established a study design to screen novel stimulation paradigms in rats. The protocol describes the use of the staircase test and cylinder test for motor outcome assessment in DBS treated hemiparkinsonian rats.
