Statins

Statins are lipid-lowering medications that reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and help prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. They competitively inhibit HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis, prompting the liver to increase LDL receptor expression and remove more LDL from the bloodstream. In clinical practice, statins support both primary prevention in people at elevated cardiovascular risk and secondary prevention after events such as myocardial infarction or stroke. Their effects on cholesterol levels and cardiovascular outcomes make them a central treatment for dyslipidemia, while monitoring helps balance therapeutic benefit with potential adverse effects.

Hyperlipidemia, a medical condition often referred to as high cholesterol, is characterized by abnormally elevated levels of lipids in the bloodstream. When present in excess, these lipids, specifically cholesterol and triglycerides, can lead to serious health complications, often involving cardiovascular diseases. Illnesses like atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and pancreatitis have all been linked to untreated hyperlipidemia. This means controlling and regulating cholesterol and triglyceride...

Adhesive micropatterns that normalize cellular architecture can be used to increase sensitivity in the detection of drug effects, improve reproducibility and simplify automated image acquisition and analysis. Such technology will benefit drug/siRNA screening assays, performed on conventional cell culture supports and consequently suffering from excessive cell-to-cell variability.

Ex vivo Expansion of Tumor-reactive T Cells by Means of Bryostatin 1/Ionomycin and the Common Gamma Chain Cytokines Formulation
