Local Extrema Analysis

Local extrema analysis is the study of where a function attains a relative maximum or minimum within a neighborhood, rather than across its entire domain. To locate and classify these points, examine the domain, identify critical numbers where the derivative is zero or undefined, and use a first-derivative sign chart or second-derivative test to determine whether the function changes from increasing to decreasing or vice versa. In mathematics, this analysis supports graphing, optimization, and interpretation of models by revealing nearby peaks and valleys, even when a global optimum does not exist. It also helps connect algebraic formulas with geometric behavior.

Cited by 1 •

2011

A flexible and efficient method for the characterization of cell type-specific protein localization and nucleocytoplasmic shuttling is described. This heterokaryon approach uses fluorescently-labeled fusion proteins to image protein localizations after cell fusion. The protocol is amenable to steady-state localizations or more dynamic determinations based on live cell imaging.

Single Molecule Analysis of Laser Localized Psoralen Adducts

2017

Lasers are frequently used in studies of the cellular response to DNA damage. However, they generate lesions whose spacing, frequency, and collisions with replication forks are rarely characterized. Here, we describe an approach that enables the determination of these parameters with laser localized interstrand crosslinks.

Mass Cytometry Analysis of Systemic and Local Immune Responses in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

2025

This protocol outlines a comprehensive mass cytometry (cytometry by time-of-flight [CyTOF]) analysis method for evaluating both systemic and local immune responses in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The approach aims to provide insights into the immune landscape of HCC, offering a deeper understanding of the tumor microenvironment and the associated immune mechanisms.
