Delayed Graft Function

Delayed graft function is a temporary period of inadequate kidney transplant performance, commonly defined by the need for dialysis during the first week after transplantation, and it can influence early graft and patient management. It usually results from ischemia-reperfusion injury sustained during organ retrieval, preservation, and implantation, which disrupts tubular function and reduces renal filtration despite restored blood flow. Clinicians monitor urine output, serum creatinine, electrolytes, and fluid balance while distinguishing delayed recovery from acute rejection or other complications. Understanding delayed graft function supports individualized immunosuppression, dialysis, graft assessment, and strategies to improve organ preservation and long-term transplant outcomes.

The Precision of Visual Working Memory with Delayed Estimation

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Human memory is limited. Throughout most of its history, experimental psychology has focused on investigating the discrete, quantitative limits of memory—how many individual pieces of information a person can remember. Recently, experimental psychologists have also become interested in more qualitative limits—how precisely is information stored? The concept of memory precision can be both intuitive and elusive at once. It is...

Delay discounting refers to a decline in the value of a reward when it is delayed relative to when it is immediately available. We outline a computer-based delay discounting task that is easy to implement and allows for the quantification of the degree of delay discounting in human participants.

Mouse Models for Graft Arteriosclerosis

We describe protocols for our mouse graft arteriosclerois (GA) models which involve interposition of a mouse vessel segment into a recipient of the same inbred strain. By backcrossing additional genetic changes into the vessel donor, the model can assess the effect of specific genes on GA.

Antigens Protected Functional Red Blood Cells By The Membrane Grafting Of Compact Hyperbranched Polyglycerols

The cell membrane modification of red blood cells (RBCs) with hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) is presented. Modified RBCs were characterized by aqueous two phase partitioning, osmotic fragility and complement mediated lysis. The camouflage of surface proteins and antigens was evaluated using the flow cytometry and Micro Typing System (MTS) blood phenotyping cards.

Here, we present a protocol to generate tissue engineered vessel grafts that are functional for grafting into mice by double seeding partially induced pluripotent stem cell (PiPSC) - derived smooth muscle cells and PiPSC - derived endothelial cells on a decellularized vessel scaffold bioreactor.
