Context Influence

Context influence is the effect of surrounding environmental, social, and situational information on how people perceive, think, feel, and behave. In psychology, context shapes attention and interpretation by activating relevant knowledge, expectations, goals, and social cues, which can change the meaning assigned to the same stimulus or event. Researchers examine these effects through experiments that vary settings, instructions, framing, or interpersonal conditions while measuring responses and behavior. Understanding context influence supports more accurate explanations of decision-making, memory, communication, learning, and social interaction, while also helping researchers design studies and interventions that reflect real-world conditions.
