JoVE Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary section devoted to investigations of the structure, function, physiology, and pathophysiology of the brain and nervous system. Neuroscience

JoVE Medicine serves as a connection between basic research and clinical applications. Articles may present medical procedures, case studies or clinical trial methodologies. JoVE Engineering encompasses a broad range of experimental and instrumental techniques utilized in physics research. Investigations in this area strive to address and answer a broad range of scientific questions, such as device mechanisms and efficiencies, using physical tools. This approach often requires a combination of specialties, and research in this area tends to be interdisciplinary with contributions from mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineers.

Here, we present an integrated protocol for generating controlled osteochondral lesions in sheep knees to establish an experimental model suitable for bone and cartilage tissue regeneration studies. The protocol outlines a method for inducing a full-thickness osteochondral defect in the femoral condyle, utilizing techniques that minimize animal welfare impacts and variability in results.

Establishment and Evaluation of a Sheep Model of Full-thickness Osteochondral Defect

We present a reproducible mouse model of heterotopic hindlimb-to-neck vascularized composite allotransplantation. This supermicrosurgical protocol, involving 0.3-0.5 mm vessel anastomoses, integrates nylon filament guidance and venous cuffing. It provides a reliable platform for translational studies on tolerance, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and immunological mechanisms in vascularized composite allotransplantation.

Heterotopic Hindlimb-to-Neck Transplantation in the Mouse: A Supermicrosurgical Model of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation

This study describes a standardized surgical procedure for single-port endoscopic axillary lymph node dissection without liposuction in breast cancer. Indicated for patients with biopsy-confirmed nodal metastasis or positive sentinel lymph nodes, the technique emphasizes preservation of critical structures, particularly the intercostobrachial nerve, to reduce postoperative morbidity and optimize functional recovery.

Single-port Non-liposuction Endoscopic Axillary Lymph Node Dissection in Breast Cancer Surgery

This video case report demonstrates the unique management of a duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor with a rare, understudied, exon 8 KIT mutation. Neoadjuvant therapy resulted in a 30% reduction in tumor size, making the patient a candidate for a robotic-assisted duodenal sleeve resection instead of the more morbid pancreaticoduodenectomy.
