Endothelial Cell Growth Medium

Endothelial Cell Growth Medium is a specialized culture formulation that supports the survival, proliferation, and maintenance of endothelial cells, which line blood vessels and regulate vascular function. It works by combining a nutrient-rich basal medium with supplements such as serum, growth factors, and other signaling components that promote cell attachment, metabolism, and division under controlled laboratory conditions. In medicine and vascular research, this medium enables expansion of endothelial cells for studying angiogenesis, barrier function, wound repair, and vascular disease. It also supports in vitro testing of drugs, biomaterials, and treatments that affect blood vessel formation and endothelial health.

A Simple Bioassay for the Evaluation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factors

We describe a simple cell-based bioassay for detecting, quantifying and monitoring the activity of members of the vascular endothelial growth factor family of ligands. The assay uses chimeric receptors expressed in a factor-dependent cell line to provide a semi-quantitative or quantitative assessment of receptor binding and cross-linking by the ligand.

We provide a method for isolating and culturing pure populations of heart valve endothelial cells (VEC). VEC can be isolated from either side of the cusp or leaflet and immediately following, underlying interstitial cell (VIC) isolation is straightforward.

Primary cell culture is a useful technique for analyzing specific populations of cells, particularly from transgenic mouse embryos at specific developmental stages. Herein, embryonic ventricles are dissected and dissociated, and antibody-conjugated beads recognize and separate out the endothelial cells for further analysis.
