Paddy Disease Detection

Paddy disease detection is the process of identifying diseases in rice plants, an important task for protecting crop health, yield, and food security. Engineering systems typically analyze leaf images or field observations, using image preprocessing to reduce noise, extracting visual features such as color, texture, and lesion patterns, and applying machine-learning or computer-vision models to classify disease conditions. These tools can support early diagnosis and targeted crop management while reducing reliance on manual inspection. Their integration with mobile devices, cameras, and automated monitoring platforms may improve surveillance across farms and provide scalable data for precision agriculture and future decision-support systems.

One of the pathological characteristics of AD is the formation of Amyloid β protein positive neuritic plaques. In this protocol we describe two methods to detect neuritic plaques in transgenic AD model mice: immunohistochemical detection using the ABC and DAB method and fluorescent detection using thioflavin S staining method.

Source: Bétemps, D., et al., Detection of Disease-associated α-synuclein by Enhanced ELISA in the Brain of Transgenic Mice Overexpressing Human A53T Mutated α-synuclein. J. Vis. Exp. (2015).This video demonstrates the procedure to detect neurodegenerative disease-associated protein α-synuclein in brain tissue from transgenic mice using ELISA. The steps include tissue homogenization, centrifugation, and ELISA detection of α-synuclein protein to quantify its disease-associated forms.

An ELISA offering a novel quantitative approach is described. It specifically detects disease-associated α-synuclein (αSD) in a transgenic mouse model (M83) of synucleinopathy using several antibodies against either the Ser129 phosphorylated αS form or the C-terminal part of the protein.
