Spheroid Morphology Disruption

Spheroid morphology disruption is the alteration of size, shape, compactness, or structural integrity in three-dimensional cell aggregates, providing a visible indicator of tissue-like damage or remodeling. In immunology and infection research, pathogens or immune effectors can disturb cell-cell adhesion, viability, cytoskeletal organization, or extracellular matrix interactions, causing spheroids to become irregular, loosen, fragment, or collapse. Researchers use these morphological changes to evaluate host-pathogen interactions, immune-mediated injury, and cellular responses to antimicrobial or immunomodulatory treatments. Quantifying spheroid integrity can complement viability and molecular assays, helping reveal how infection and inflammation affect multicellular organization in physiologically relevant models.
