Organ Retrieval

Organ retrieval is the surgical recovery of viable organs from deceased or living donors for transplantation, a critical step in replacing organs damaged by disease or injury. After donor eligibility, consent, and organ matching are established, surgeons remove the organ using carefully controlled techniques, flush it with preservation solution, and maintain cold conditions to reduce cellular metabolism and ischemic injury during transport. Retrieval must balance rapid coordination with strict attention to anatomy, sterility, and organ quality. In medicine, these procedures expand transplant opportunities, improve recipient outcomes, and support research into preservation methods that may extend safe storage and increase the donor organ supply.

Retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory storage and back into conscious awareness. This ability is essential for daily tasks like brushing hair and teeth, driving to work, and performing job duties. Retrieval occurs in three ways: recall, recognition, and relearning. Recall involves accessing information without cues, such as during an essay test, where individuals must retrieve facts and concepts from memory unaided. Another example is remembering the name of a colleague...

Deployment and Retrieval of Mineral Samplers

2026

Many important reactive minerals are formed during in situ groundwater remediation; however, conventional drill core-based methods often present challenges in collecting these minerals. This article offers techniques for utilizing the Min-Trap, an innovative passive sampling device, to effectively collect and measure reactive minerals from conventional monitoring wells.

ER Retrieval Pathway

In the secretory pathway, vesicles transport proteins from one cellular compartment to another in forward transport to deliver the protein to its correct location. Occasionally, misfolded proteins and incorrect proteins escape their original compartments, and a retrieval pathway is used to return the escaped proteins to their original compartment. The ER uses many checkpoints to prevent the entry of incorrectly folded or a resident protein as cargo onto a transport vesicle. These mechanisms...

Personalized Peptide Arrays for Detection of HLA Alloantibodies in Organ Transplantation

Mismatches in human leukocyte antigen (HLA) sequences between organ donor and recipient pairs are the major cause of antibody-mediated rejection in organ transplantation. Here we present the use of custom antigen arrays that are based on individual donors' HLA sequences to probe anti-donor HLA alloantibodies in organ recipients.
