Pig Brain Infusion

Pig brain infusion is a neuroscience technique that delivers a defined solution into or through the brain of a pig to study drug distribution, tissue responses, or brain physiology in a large-animal model. The procedure uses controlled fluid flow and pressure to introduce substances through a selected route, such as the cerebral vasculature or a targeted brain region, while researchers monitor delivery and potential effects on neural tissue. Because pig brains share important anatomical and physiological features with human brains, this approach supports studies of blood-brain barrier transport, therapeutic delivery, neuroinflammation, and neurological disease. Findings can help refine treatments and inform later-stage translational research.

In this video, we demonstrate the assembly of a micro-osmotic pump brain infusion system followed by its surgical implantation in the mouse skull. This system enables continuous delivery of potential drugs and facilitates the study of their effects on the brain and brain tissue.

Direct Stereotaxic Brain Infusion of Amyloid-Beta Proteins for an Alzheimer's Disease Model

This video demonstrates the precise stereotaxic infusion of amyloid beta into the dentate gyrus to establish a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. Accurate coordinate determination and controlled delivery of amyloid beta proteins result in neuronal degradation, disrupting memory processing and contributing to Alzheimer's disease development.
