Ocular Tissue Engraftment

Ocular tissue engraftment is the transplantation and integration of donor or engineered eye tissue into a recipient site to restore ocular structure and function. The process depends on preparing the host tissue, positioning the graft, and supporting cell adhesion, wound healing, and functional integration while limiting immune rejection. Applications include corneal transplantation, limbal stem cell repair, and emerging regenerative approaches for damaged retinal or other ocular tissues. Studying engraftment helps researchers evaluate graft survival, tissue organization, and visual recovery, advancing treatments for injury, degenerative disease, and vision loss.

The paper describes a simplified technique to excise corneal and to eviscerate retinal tissues from the ocular globe of human cadaveric donors. The technique described here will help to excise good quality tissues to be used for transplantation, surgical or research purposes without damaging other tissues of the ocular globe.

Adenocarcinoma Engraftment: A Method to Implant Cancer Cells into the Murine Lungs

Experimental Glaucoma Induced by Ocular Injection of Magnetic Microspheres

We present a method for inducing elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), by injecting magnetic microspheres into the rat eye, to model glaucoma. This leads to strong pressure rises, and extensive neuronal death. This protocol is easy to perform, does not require repeat injections, and produces stable long-lasting IOP rises.
