Breast Support Structures

Breast support structures are the anatomical tissues that help maintain breast shape, position, and relationship to the chest wall, making them important in clinical anatomy and surgical planning. Support arises from the skin, fibrous connective-tissue septa known as Cooper’s ligaments, and attachments to the superficial and pectoral fascia; these elements partition adipose and glandular tissue and transmit mechanical forces. Their strength and arrangement vary with age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, body composition, and gravity, influencing breast movement and ptosis. Understanding this framework guides physical examination, mammography interpretation, reconstructive and reduction surgery, implant placement, and evaluation of injury or disease.

Sample preparation for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a significant bottleneck in the structure determination workflow of this method. Here, we provide detailed methods for using an easy-to-use, three-dimensionally printed block for the preparation of support films to stabilize samples for transmission EM studies.

We have developed a collagen-based in vitro assay which promotes proliferation and invasion from samples of all breast cancer subtypes. Optical Projection Tomography, a three dimensional microscopy technique was utilised to visualise and quantify tumour expansion. This assay may be used to quantify drug response of individual tumour samples.

Activation of latent mutations with adenovirus-Cre into the mammary ductal system results in a clinically relevant metastatic breast cancer. Incorporation of a YFP promoter allows tracking of distal metastatic tumor cells. This model is useful to study latent metastasis, anti-tumor immunity, and for designing novel immunotherapies to treat breast cancer.

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University In 1951, Kealy and Pauson reported to Nature the synthesis of a new organometallic compound, ferrocene.1 In their original report, Pauson suggested a structure for ferrocene in which the iron is singly bonded (sigma bonds) to one carbon atom of each cyclopentadiene ligand (Figure 1, Structure I).1,2,3 This initial report led to wide-spread interest in the structure of ferrocene, and many leading scientists participated...

Single-Port Robotic-assisted Transaxillary Breast-conserving Surgery: A Prospective, Single-arm, Non-randomized Phase IIa Clinical Trial

2025

This prospective study evaluated the implementation of a novel, single-port, robotic platform in oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery for malignant lesions. The primary endpoint focused on technical success, defined as the achievement of tumor-free resection margins confirmed by intraoperative frozen-section histopathology, with secondary assessment of aesthetic outcomes and life quality score of patients.
