Nerve Root Decompression

Nerve root decompression is a surgical procedure that relieves pressure on a spinal nerve root, helping restore neural function and reduce pain, numbness, or weakness. The procedure enlarges the passageway around the affected nerve by removing or reshaping compressive tissue, such as a herniated disc, bone growth, or thickened ligament, while preserving spinal stability when possible. In neuroscience and clinical practice, decompression is used to treat nerve root compression associated with conditions such as spinal stenosis and disc herniation. Its outcomes provide insight into the relationship between mechanical pressure, nerve signaling, sensory symptoms, and motor impairment.

There are many available options for management of the patient with trigeminal neuralgia. Microvascular decompression, while the most invasive of all options, is also the most effective at achieving long term remission of symptoms. Video instruction on how to maximize efficacy and minimize complications with this procedure is described.
