Neuronal Culture Stimulation

Neuronal culture stimulation is the controlled application of electrical, chemical, or physical cues to neurons maintained in vitro, enabling researchers to examine how neural cells respond to activity. Stimulation changes membrane potential and activates intracellular signaling pathways, while repeated or patterned inputs can influence synaptic communication, gene expression, and network behavior. In neuroscience, these cultures provide experimentally accessible models for studying neuronal excitability, plasticity, development, and disease-related dysfunction. By combining stimulation with imaging, electrophysiology, or molecular analysis, researchers can connect cellular activity with functional outcomes and evaluate potential interventions for restoring or modifying neural signaling.

Primary Neuronal Cultures

2023

The complexity of the brain often requires neuroscientists to use a simpler system for experimental manipulations and observations. One powerful approach is to generate a primary culture by dissecting nervous system tissue, dissociating it into single cells, and growing those cells in vitro. Primary cultures make neurons and glia easily accessible to the experimental tools required for techniques like genetic manipulation and time-lapse imaging. Furthermore, these cultures represent a highly...

Stimulating Neuronal Cell Differentiation Using Gold Nanorods

2025

This video demonstrates a technique to promote neuronal differentiation by exposing nerve cells to gold nanorods and laser light, which forms cell projections supported by the βIII-tubulin. Staining and observing tubulin and the cell nucleus with epifluorescence microscopy reveals the cell outgrowths, indicating the nanorods' efficacy in neuronal differentiation.
