20 Hydroxyecdysone

20-Hydroxyecdysone is a steroid hormone and principal active ecdysteroid that regulates growth, molting, and metamorphosis in arthropods. Produced from ecdysone and released at specific developmental stages, it binds the ecdysone receptor in a complex with ultraspiracle, activating hormone-responsive genes that coordinate changes in gene expression, tissue remodeling, and developmental timing. Studying 20-hydroxyecdysone helps explain insect endocrinology and life-cycle transitions, supports research on arthropod development, and informs investigations of selective pest-control strategies that disrupt molting without directly affecting vertebrate hormone systems.
