Gastric H+ Atpase

Gastric H+ ATPase is a membrane enzyme, also called the gastric proton pump, that uses cellular energy to secrete hydrochloric acid into the stomach and establish the highly acidic conditions needed for digestion. Located in the plasma membrane of gastric parietal cells, it hydrolyzes ATP to exchange intracellular hydrogen ions for extracellular potassium ions, while chloride movement supports hydrochloric acid formation in the stomach lumen. This pump contributes to protein digestion, mineral absorption, and the stomach’s defense against many microbes. Because excessive acid secretion can cause reflux or ulcers, gastric H+ ATPase is also a major target of proton pump inhibitor drugs.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Procedure: A Bariatric Surgical Procedure for Gastric Resectioning in Murine Model

2025

This video describes a bariatric surgery-Roux-en-Y procedure. This involves the cutting of the jejunum- the middle portion of the intestine- to generate two intestinal limbs. The biliary limb is attached to the existing intestinal loop and the alimentary limb is attached to the stomach, creating a gastric bypass. The gastric bypass created here helps to decrease the nutrient uptake and efficiently reduces body weight.

Numerous studies using gastric bypass rat models have been recently conducted to uncover the underlying physiological mechanisms of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass operations. This article aims to demonstrate and discuss the technical and experimental details of our published gastric bypass rat model to understand advantages and limitations of this experimental tool.

Laparoscopic Radical Gastrectomy for Remnant Gastric Cancer

2025

Laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for remnant gastric cancer has been increasingly adopted as a minimally invasive surgical approach in recent years. This article proposes a detailed operating procedure, aiming to provide practical technical guidance for surgeons and promote the broader adoption of laparoscopic surgery in managing remnant gastric cancer.

In early gastric cancer, the aim of surgery is to precisely remove the distal stomach including the primary tumor. To do this, accurate localization of the tumor is crucial, especially in totally laparoscopic surgery. This protocol describes a procedure for intraoperative gastroscopy in totally laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy.
