Mammosphere Size Analysis

Mammosphere size analysis is a quantitative method for measuring the dimensions of three-dimensional mammospheres, which are cell clusters formed when mammary cells grow under nonadherent, serum-free conditions. Researchers typically use microscopy to capture mammosphere images and determine features such as diameter, area, or size distribution, often after excluding debris and irregular structures. Because mammosphere formation reflects the survival and self-renewal of mammary stem and progenitor cells, size analysis helps assess changes in cellular behavior under different culture conditions or treatments. In biology research, this approach supports studies of mammary gland development, cancer stem cell properties, drug response, and tissue regeneration.

This video describes isolating cancer stem cells from breast cancer cell lines. We culture these cancer stem cells to generate primary mammospheres for assessing self-renewal and calculating sphere-forming efficiency, allowing comparison across different seeding...

Mammosphere Assay Reveals Api5-Induced Stemness in Non-Tumorigenic Breast Epithelial Cell Lines

This protocol describes the method for setting up the mammosphere formation assay to study Apoptosis Inhibitor 5 (Api5)- induced cancer stemness in non-tumorigenic breast epithelial cells. Lysates collected from primary generation mammospheres are analysed for different stemness markers to assess the induction of stem cell-like properties.

The Anchoring-and-Adjustment Heuristic

2020

In order to make good decisions, we use our knowledge and our reasoning. Often, this knowledge and reasoning is sound and solid. However, sometimes, we are swayed by biases or by others manipulating a situation. For example, let’s say you and three friends wanted to rent a house and had a combined target budget of $1,600. The realtor shows you only very run-down houses for $1,600 and then shows you a very nice house for $2,000. Might you ask each person to pay more in rent to get the $2,000...

Adjusting a Traverse

In the site survey of a four-sided traverse, internal angles are essential to ensure geometric accuracy. The survey revealed that the sum of the measured internal angles was 359 degrees and 48 minutes, which is 12 minutes less than the expected 360 degrees. This discrepancy signals an error likely arising from measurement inaccuracies during the fieldwork. To rectify this error, the adjustment process involved distributing the 12-minute shortfall equally across the four internal angles. By...
