Microarray Analysis

Microarray analysis is a high-throughput method for measuring the abundance or sequence-specific presence of many nucleic acid targets simultaneously, making it useful for studying genome-wide patterns in biology. In a typical experiment, labeled DNA or RNA from a sample hybridizes to complementary probes immobilized on a solid surface, and fluorescence intensity at each spot reflects the relative amount of the corresponding target. Researchers use microarrays to compare gene expression between conditions, identify genetic variation, classify samples, and investigate cellular responses to disease or treatment. Although sequencing has replaced microarrays in some applications, their standardized design and efficient parallel measurements continue to support biological research.
