Neuronal Cell Culture

Neuronal cell culture is a laboratory method for growing and maintaining neurons outside the nervous system, providing a controlled model for studying how nerve cells develop, communicate, and respond to injury or treatment. Researchers seed primary neurons or neuron-like cells on a suitable substrate and supply a nutrient-rich medium under controlled temperature, gas, and sterile conditions to support cell survival, neurite extension, and synaptic function. Cultured neurons enable direct analysis of morphology, electrical activity, signaling pathways, and cell-cell interactions. They are widely used in developmental biology, neurodegenerative disease research, neurotoxicity testing, and evaluation of candidate therapies.
