Rna Localization Analysis

RNA localization analysis is the study of where RNA molecules are positioned within cells, tissues, or organisms and why that distribution matters for gene regulation and cell function. Researchers identify RNA locations using approaches such as fluorescence in situ hybridization, live-cell imaging, cellular fractionation, or sequencing of isolated compartments, often by detecting RNA-specific sequences or labeling transcripts. These methods reveal whether transcripts concentrate in the nucleus, cytoplasm, organelles, or specialized cellular regions and can connect localization with transport, translation, development, and disease. In biology, RNA localization analysis helps explain how cells control when and where proteins are produced.

Source: Laboratories of Dr. Ian Pepper and Dr. Charles Gerba - The University of Arizona Demonstrating Author: Bradley Schmitz Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) involves the same process as conventional PCR — cycling temperature to amplify nucleic acids. However, while conventional PCR only amplifies deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA), RT-PCR enables the amplification of ribonucleic acids (RNA) through the formation of complementary DNA (cDNA). This enables RNA-based organisms...

Heterokaryon Technique for Analysis of Cell Type-specific Localization

Cited by 1 •

2011

A flexible and efficient method for the characterization of cell type-specific protein localization and nucleocytoplasmic shuttling is described. This heterokaryon approach uses fluorescently-labeled fusion proteins to image protein localizations after cell fusion. The protocol is amenable to steady-state localizations or more dynamic determinations based on live cell imaging.
