Single Cell Suspension

A single cell suspension is a preparation in which cells are separated from one another and dispersed individually in a liquid medium, enabling their analysis, counting, or experimental manipulation. It is typically produced by disrupting cell-cell and cell-matrix connections through mechanical trituration, enzymatic digestion, or both, while controlling factors such as temperature, processing time, and shear stress to preserve cell viability. In biology, single cell suspensions support flow cytometry, cell sorting, primary cell culture, and single-cell sequencing. Their quality directly affects measurement accuracy, downstream recovery, and the ability to characterize cellular heterogeneity.
