Ligature Holder

A ligature holder is a fine-tipped instrument used to grasp, guide, and secure ligatures around teeth or other small anatomical structures. In immunology and infection research, it enables controlled placement of a ligature in animal models, where the material remains positioned near the gingival margin and creates a localized, plaque-retentive site. This condition promotes microbial accumulation and tissue inflammation, allowing investigators to study host immune responses, periodontal infection, and inflammatory bone loss. Consistent handling and placement improve experimental reproducibility while supporting careful procedures that limit unnecessary tissue injury and reduce the risk of unintended contamination.

We describe a highly reproducible method for the permanent occlusion of a rodent major cerebral blood vessel. This technique can be accomplished with very little peripheral damage, minimal blood loss, a high rate of long-term survival, and consistent infarct volume commensurate with the human clinical population.

Robust Ligature-Induced Model of Murine Periodontitis for the Evaluation of Oral Neutrophils

This article presents a protocol for establishing a ligature-induced model of murine periodontitis involving multiple maxillary molars, resulting in larger areas of the involved gingival tissue and bone for subsequent analysis as well as reduced animal usage. A technique to assess oral neutrophils in a manner analogous to human subjects is also described.

2019

A novel sample holder for macromolecular X-ray crystallography along with a suitable handling protocol is presented. The system allows crystal growth, crystal soaking and in situ diffraction data collection at both, ambient and cryogenic temperature without the need of any crystal manipulation or mounting.

Live-Cell Imaging of Intact Ex Vivo Globes Using a Novel 3D Printed Holder

The present work describes a novel experimental protocol that utilizes a 3D printed holder to enable high-resolution live cell imaging of enucleated globes. Through this protocol, the cellular calcium signaling activity in wounded corneal epithelium from ex vivo globes can be observed in real time.
