Nanoparticle Vaccine

A nanoparticle vaccine uses nanoscale materials to deliver an antigen or genetic instructions for an antigen and stimulate a targeted immune response. Nanoparticles can protect their cargo from degradation, control its release, and promote uptake by antigen-presenting cells, which process the material and activate T and B lymphocytes. In immunology and infection research, these platforms support the development of vaccines against viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens while enabling precise delivery of adjuvants or antigens. Their tunable size, composition, and surface properties may improve immune activation, stability, and tissue targeting, although safety, manufacturing, and dose optimization remain important considerations.

Formulating mRNA-Loaded Nanoparticles for Vaccination Purposes

2025

This video demonstrates a method for generating an mRNA vaccine candidate using polymeric nanoparticles. The cationic polymer interacts with negatively charged mRNA, forming polyplexes. The formation of polyplexes stabilizes the mRNA, making it a potential candidate for future mRNA vaccines in immunotherapeutic applications.

Vaccinations

Overview Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material from pathogens to confer immunity against a specific microorganism. Vaccination primes the immune system to recognize and mount an immune response faster and more effectively if the real pathogen is encountered. Vaccinations are one of the most efficient ways to protect both individual humans and the general public from disease. A growing anti-vaccination skepticism risks the successes of vaccination programs that helped reduce...
