Slit Lamp Microscopy

Slit lamp microscopy is a noninvasive optical technique that uses a focused beam of light and magnification to examine the eye’s transparent and anterior structures in fine detail. By narrowing and angling the illuminated beam, clinicians and researchers create optical sections that reveal changes in the cornea, anterior chamber, lens, conjunctiva, and related tissues. In neuroscience, this method supports assessment of ocular signs associated with neural and visual disorders, including abnormalities that may reflect damage along the optic pathway. Its high-resolution, real-time imaging aids clinical examination, disease monitoring, and research linking eye structure with nervous system function.

2014

A procedure for creating and imaging capillary bridges in slit-pore geometry is presented. The creation of capillary bridges relies on the formation of pillars to provide a directional physical and chemical heterogeneity to pin the fluid. Capillary bridges are formed and manipulated using microstages and visualized using a CCD camera.

2015

Diagnosis of Eimeria infection in chickens remains demanding. Parasite morphology- and host pathology-led approaches are commonly inconclusive, while molecular approaches based on PCR have proven demanding in cost and expertise. The aim of this protocol is to establish loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) as a straightforward molecular diagnostic for eimerian infection.

Introduction to Fluorescence Microscopy

2023

Fluorescence microscopy is a very powerful analytical tool that combines the magnifying properties of light microscopy with visualization of fluorescence. Fluorescence is a phenomenon that involves absorbance and emission of a small range of light wavelengths by a fluorescent molecule known as a fluorophore. Fluorescence microscopy is accomplished in conjunction with the basic light microscope by the addition of a powerful light source, specialized filters, and a means of fluorescently...

2018

This paper reports the protocol for a rapid identification assay for Bemisia tabaci based on loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology. The protocol requires minimal laboratory training and can, therefore, be implemented on-site at points of entry for plant imports such as seaports and airports.

Imaging Dendritic Spines of Rat Primary Hippocampal Neurons using Structured Illumination Microscopy

This article describes a working protocol to image dendritic spines from hippocampal neurons in vitro using Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM). Super-resolution microscopy using SIM provides image resolution significantly beyond the light diffraction limit in all three spatial dimensions, allowing the imaging of individual dendritic spines with improved detail.
