Patient Self-management

Patient self-management is the active involvement of individuals in managing their health, symptoms, treatments, and daily decisions, making it an important component of modern medicine. It works through processes such as monitoring symptoms, following treatment plans, taking medications as prescribed, adopting health-supporting behaviors, and communicating relevant changes to healthcare professionals. Education, goal setting, care planning, and shared decision-making help patients apply these skills to chronic conditions and ongoing recovery. Effective self-management can support treatment adherence, strengthen patient confidence, improve communication, and contribute to better quality of life and health outcomes.
