Patient Preparation Protocol

A Patient Preparation Protocol is a standardized sequence of clinical steps used to ready a patient for examination, diagnostic testing, treatment, or a procedure while promoting safety and reliable results. It works by matching preparation requirements to the planned intervention, then confirming patient identity, relevant history, allergies, medications, vital signs, instructions, and informed consent before care begins. Depending on the clinical context, preparation may include fasting, medication adjustments, site cleansing, positioning, or physical and psychological support. Consistent protocols reduce preventable errors, improve cooperation and data quality, and help clinicians identify risks requiring modification, delay, or additional monitoring.

A simple, inexpensive, and effective method of preparing Drosophila embryos for live-imaging analysis is presented. Our protocol provides humidity and gas exchange and does not compress the Drosophila embryo. This method is suitable for GFP-based live imaging of Drosophila embryos using a stereomicroscope or upright compound microscope.
