Surgical Evaluation

Surgical evaluation is the systematic assessment of a patient’s health, condition, and suitability for an operation, supporting safe and effective clinical decision-making. It combines medical history, physical examination, diagnostic imaging, laboratory tests, medication review, and risk assessment to clarify the diagnosis, determine whether surgery is appropriate, and plan perioperative care. In medicine, this process helps clinicians balance expected benefits against risks such as bleeding, infection, anesthesia complications, and delayed recovery. Findings guide procedure selection, preparation, informed consent, and postoperative monitoring, while multidisciplinary evaluation can improve coordination and identify conditions that require treatment before surgery.
